IS AUCKLAND GETTING IT'S MOJO BACK?
Is it just us, or is Auckland starting to feel a little more vibrant? The days are getting longer, the road cones are disappearing, new restaurants and bars are opening, and there's a renewed sense of energy around the city.
After a few challenging years, there are some encouraging signs:
Live music is booming. Olivia Dean has just performed at Western Springs, with Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon heading our way this summer.
The City Rail Link is open. Train journeys hit record numbers in its first week, with some city businesses reporting their best trading in years.
Hospitality is looking lively. New openings like Wilco's wine bar in Pt Chev and Bravo at Cracker Bay are adding to an already impressive dining scene, with waterfront favourites like First Mates, Last Laugh at Westhaven.
People are returning. City-centre foot traffic increased 7% year-on-year in the June quarter
Of course, challenges remain, but after years of disruption and economic uncertainty, it's refreshing to see some positive momentum
